General Motors and SAE Foundation Collaborate for STEM

STEM - General Motors Communities - teacher and students working on vehicle General Motors helps to change the lives of students and their families by making education more accessible, affordable and valuable from preschool through college. In addition to supporting student reach at a level of $375,000 through General Motors, GM also supports SAE by facilitating program development. General Motors supported SAE in the expansion of the A World In Motion® Primary Program, which focuses on scientific-literacy at the kindergarten through third grade levels. As a direct result of this funding, AWIM is reaching young learners in their most formative learning years. STEM education has significant gaps in reaching students and teachers in these early years. General Motors and SAE had the foresight to see this and to develop a solution.

With continued support from General Motors, the AWIM program will continue to grow in 2018 with the formal launch of “Keeping Our Networks Secure,” a first of its kind cybersecurity-focused curriculum designed to get students ready for Instructional Technology careers through STEM education.

General Motors also supports the development of other STEM programs at SAE, including the University AutoDrive Challenge, a newly established, three-year autonomous vehicle competition, as well as the continued support of the University Formula SAE Competitions.
